Lily the Bernese Mountain dog is very proud of all of her heroes. These kids are really something - they are very active in their community and have learned the importance of giving. On Saturday, September 6, 2008, all of the heroes from the web site were invited to participate in Kids Are Heroes Day at the FSK mall in Frederick. Fifteen young men and women accepted the invitation and collected just over $1000.00 for various charities in a six hour period despite howling winds and five inches of rain outside. These heroes were (from left to right starting in the back row): Amy McQuin, Courtney Williams, Julie Yankaskas, Todd McQuin, Mercy Blouin-Escoto, Rianna Joy, Reagan Joy, Taylor Garner, Shannon McQuin, Kimani West, MaryMargaret O'Neill, Mandy Mossburg, Julia Lemick, John Sun and Anna Lemick. Miranda Mossburg has a special affinity for horses. For her 10th birthday, in lieu of gifts she asked for donations to help repair a barn roof that had been shelter for two of HorseNet Rescue’s older blind horses. Mandy raised more than $400 to help pay for the new roof! The horses must be sequestered because they get bullied by all the other horses.
